Jury

A judging panel made up of three well-known personalities from the world of arts and photography will select the three best pictures at the end of September 2009. The jury board will include, among others:

  1. The freelancer photographer Arja Katariina Hyytiäinen was born in 1974 in Turku, Finland. She studied photography at the Hola folk high school in Sweden and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Photography and Cinema in the Czech Republic. Since 2000 she has held several solo exhibitions and taken part in group exhibitions all over Europe. One of her recent solo exhibitions “Distance Now” was being held in Gallery VU, capitol in Arles, France. In 2006, Hyytiäinen won the “Prix de la Critique Kodak France“, and in 2007 the Grand Prix de Fotofestival a Lodz. She has published a book with Images en Manouevres (2007) “Distance-Now” and is writing a book “I see you” Images en Manouevres, Petersen par Hyytiainen” (2008). In 2005, she became a member of the agency VU’ in Paris. In her black and white photographs she likes to capture the feeling of a journey on a constant change, while other works question the norms and normality. Arja Katariina Hyytiäinen lives and works in Paris and in Berlin.
  2. Ahmet Polat is a Dutch-Turkish photographer. He is recipient of the International Centre of Photography’s (ICP) “Young Photographer” award, and a photographer whose work both embodies and challenges notions of identity, whether it is through the use of narratives on familial ties and the harmony and conflict of mixed heritage, or through the lens of inherited judgments on identity through the forum of social events and arrangements. He also works at the foundation BKVB in Amsterdam and has been teaching at ArtEZ in Enschede and KABK in The Hague.
  3. Maike Köhler is head of photographic editorial department GEO International. She has been working with GEO magazine for seven years now. Before that, she worked at the German magazine SPIEGEL in Hamburg. She is an expert in picture language of different European countries and is acquainted with almost all international photographers who work in GEO-related fields.
